The Cosmopolitan Magazine May, 2011 issue have hit stands across the country! We were surprised to see that WALLTAT Japanese Maple Tree Wall Decals was featured in the "Decor Your Friend Will Envy" story (page 260). Interior Designer Mary McDonald was interviewed by the magazine to share her secrets in achieving a "droolworthy pad" and we were proud to have made the cut! Just as we encourage customers to use "Art Without Boundaries," McDonald also recommends thinking outside the frame when redecorating your digs. She also suggests installing your favorite design in an area with maximum exposure to draw your guests into the space. We couldn't agree more.

Today Show Royal Wedding Theme Party!

The use of two "Petals" WALLTAT Wall Decals were installed on each side of this restaurants airlock corridor. The vinyl colors Pink and Dark Orange were chosen to tie in the with bright and contemporary decor of this trendy New York eatery. WALLTAT Decals Add Sass To Your Walls

Wall decals are the latest craze to take over interior design as an alternative to other traditional wall decor and at the forefront of this movement is WALLTAT.com. These self-adhesive wall tattoos can transform any room into a showpiece with ease. No messy wallpaper glue, paint brushes or stencils are necessary. It’s the perfect DIY project you can complete with hardly any work.

Whether your aesthetic is classic, modern or trendy, WALLTAT’s artists have a design for you. They literally have over hundreds of designs in various different color options. Don’t confine your imagination to just your walls. These decorative installations can be placed practically anywhere. Furniture, ceilings, hard wood floors, sealed concrete, mirror, cabinets, etc. Check out their FAQ for surfaces they recommend.

Brian and I decided to give WALLTAT a try for a couple of spots in our condo. I’m not joking here, but it literally took us longer to select designs than to actually implement them. Having said that, depending on how elaborate and big your selections are, you will need a bit of patience and a steady hand. Even though I’m certain you can do this by yourself, I highly suggest having two people install the decals. Not only is it more fun, but why take unnecessary chances.

The biggest lesson we learned during our first attempt, was to read the accompanying product instructions thoroughly first. Out of all the points, the biggest ones I’d like to punctuate refer to making sure all nearby fans were turned off and not to put the bare decal too close to the wall as you’re trying to align it. With the design below, there were plenty of individual “branches” that made it a bit trickier to ensure every “branch” made it onto the surface and didn’t stay attached to the adhesive film.

As mentioned earlier, this was our first attempt at installing them. Of course, we pick our most difficult location to begin our DIY project. Our goal, was to place the wheat grass decal on our sliding bathroom door. I wanted the bottom of the decal flushed to the edge of the door, while Brian wanted it up a couple inches. Guess who won that argument?

Our biggest hurdle in this situation was being in a confined space and wanting it inside the door as oppose to the outside. We didn’t want to carry around the exposed film to far, for fear we might get it stuck on another surface. Once we removed the protective backing from the decal, we carefully aligned it to the door. Unfortunately for us, we held it up to close to the surface and the wind from the bathroom fan placed it faster than we wanted.

Thankfully, it was level enough for us to continue with the process instead of having to remove it and start over. Once the decal was stuck on firmly, we slowly removed the film to ensure none of the “branches” stayed on the film. In the end (after a few worried moments), the end result was better than we could’ve have anticipated. Brian and I usually have a lot of people hanging out at our place and out-of-town visitors and practically everyone has complemented us on our design choice. Thanks WALLTAT.

For our second decal, we decided to decorate the wall behind our bed. It’s been bare since we moved in a year ago, due to a lack of decision making skills on our part. When I saw this abstract swirl pattern, I knew we had a winner. The image above illustrates the decal after removing the protective backing. After lessons learned and confidence gained from our first attempt, we were comfortable removing the backing in an open area and transporting it later.

Since the adhesive is very sticky when it comes to contact with a surface, I suggest you pre-mark on the wall where you want the decal to sit. Also, clear any obstacles that might be in the way. I’m very anal, so we did a dry run with the backing still on. A move, I would highly recommend. Once you get the decal on the wall, go from left to right with the supplied tool to flatten the decal and remove any air bubbles that might have formed.

What do you think of the final product? It looks pretty amazing on our wall, don’t you think? As you can see, most of their designs usually don’t have corners so it’s a little trickier to center it on your desired surface. Might I suggest you pick the furthermost points on the design and place a faint mark on the wall and go from there.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT

For anyone interested in adding a little attitude to your walls, I highly recommend you consider wall decals from WALLTAT.com. It’s relatively easy to put up, and the outcome will impress your guests. Whether you like pop art, nature scenes, ethnic patterns or classic designs, you’d be hard-pressed not to find a design that catches your eye.

If you’re looking for a little bling, they offer a few of their designs in a reflective finish. I still have a couple of these to put up, but can decide on where to put them yet, but I have inspected them and can confirm the reflection quality is pretty wicked.

Just a couple of suggestions before installing the wall tattoo:

read the shipped instructions thoroughly
enlist a friend to help
using tape, place the decal on the desired surface to visualize it better. the decals aren’t reusable. strictly for one-time use only
clean the surface before sticking the decal
be patient and don’t rush things
turn off any fans and remove any obstacles

Everyone knows that wall decals are an easy and inexpensive way to give interiors a space lift or drive home a theme. Here is a popular shopping center that has made full use of them around columns on the sides of escalators and throughout otherwise dull areas of the space.

When I think of fall I think of football, falling leaves, harvest and pumpkins.

Fall is my favorite seasons for many reasons. For one, it is harvest season for many parts of the US and it is time to reap the benefits of spring and summer's hard work. The weather is once again comfortable with hits of cold of the winter to come (I live in the midwest). Nature responds to this change with some dramatic changes of it's own, as birds head south, trees shed their leaves and remind us once again of the cyclical nature of all that is.

If you live in a big city and don't get to experience fall every day, take some time to get out of the concrete jungle and drive to the country even it's for a day. I think it is important to visually experience this change and prepare yourself for the winter ahead.

Another great way to embrace fall is to bring elements of the outdoors to your interior spaces. Pumpkin carving, hay and leaves are a great example of this. Of course this stuff has a shelf life and needs to be disposed of pretty quickly. For those that want something that lasts a bit longer there is the falling leaves wall decals.

It is that time of year again as young adults are headed back to college and often their new dorm room. For some, this means that they will be away from home for the first time, as others are looking forward to reuniting with friends. For the freshmen, it should come as no surprise that your dorm room will be small and most likely shared with a stranger. This is why as much as you would like to make it your own, your roommate will have something to say about it- compromise is the name of the game.

Now, if you are a freshman or going back as a seasoned student you have almost certainly had a busy couple of weeks gathering essentials (and you are sure to miss some), picking out bedding, and making sure you have enough clothes to last until your first break. Dorm decor may not be up on your list, especially because of the roommate situation, but you should be prepared to show them something that will blow them away and win you some cool points off the bat. Wall Decals mean IMPACT!

We recently asked WALLTAT friends and twitterers for photos of their WALLTAT installations and couldn't be happier with the response. We have been talking about the ability to make an impact with a single decal (see home staging below) and these customers know exactly what we are talking about.

This Chandelier installation in frosted finish was installed on a mirrored wall to further enhance the illusion of depth and dimension. Very nice job!

This light and airy room is another great example of what is possible with WALLTAT. Two tall grasses wall decals were used here to wrap this half wall. The white color is a perfect selection for this contemporary space. What I'd like to know is: where can I get that chair? Just a great space!

It is no secret that our friend Ed Rudock is a big fan of WALLTAT. If for no other reason, Ed understands the high impact effect a simple element like a WALLTAT can have on a room or interior space. But I'm sure there are more reasons- right ED?

As a follow up to our earlier post, we wanted to showcase Ed's creativity in this transitional room, that got people talking during this open house. And that was exactly the point!

Here Ed combines several Line Graphic Wall Decals to produce a dramatic backdrop for this bonus room. He used the inverse option to get a mirror image of the design and combined them seamlessly to produce another memorable feature for this great space- brilliant!

This installation is further proof that high impact does not have to mean high cost. WALLTAT delivers designs with inherent value that are capable of transforming interiors in a cost effective manner.

Not all Wall Decals are Created Equal

Wall Decals have been creating quite the buzz lately and more and more people are using them to decorate and transform everything from living rooms, kids rooms and nurseries, even bathrooms and glass. The designs are fun and installation is a breeze. However, as you are searching for your perfect design it is important to note that not all wall decals are created equal.

Here are a few things to consider when purchasing wall decals online.

Size of Wall Decal: this seems like an obvious one but be sure to review the dimensions of your product with the picture shown. For example a site may show an image spanning an entire sofa but the dimensions prove to be much smaller. At WALLTAT we offer up to five different sizes to our designs, and show images that are true to size. We also encourage you to measure your space before ordering.

Vinyl Quality: this is probably the most important attribute when selecting your wall decal. Not only will a high quality vinyl decal last longer, it will maintain color and blend in with your walls better. High quality vinyl will have it's color throughout (also making it usable on glass surfaces) and for interior uses should be a matte finish. WALLTAT uses only High Quality Vinyl. We offer 34 different color options in a matte finish that is flame retardant (B1/M1 Fire Rating) and ideal for interior use.

Design Layout: for best results and design integrity you want the wall decal to come in as few pieces as possible, preferably one. This will insure that have a horizon or vanishing point will be visually consistent to the eye. Some providers will show a given design installed but what they are selling is individual elements. This requires you to lay them out and recreate the design. For some graphic designs this is desirable because you may want to create your own patterns, but if you are purchasing a design with scene it will be difficult to recreate the layout. Most standard sizes (A,B,C) of WALLTAT designs come in one piece to ensure design integrity. This means no guesswork on your part and your design will look exactly as you saw it on screen. For larger or multi-colored designs WALLTAT breaks the vinyl into rolls of 4 ft. and uses match points to for accuracy. Simply peel the backing and apply to your wall.
Design Detail: the great thing about this wall decor alternative is that it allows for a very precise level of detail. However, the detail is only as good as the design and some designs are simply better than others. The Washington Post takes on design requests from its audience and features them in "House Calls" in the Home & Garden section. In the March 12, 2009 issue Ed Rudock of Spacelift Staging and Interior (re)Design takes on the challenge of a homeowner that is adopting a newborn baby and would "love some help with decorating her [nursery]."

Colorful Kids Decals
